Core specifications

According to Table 14.1 the core consists of 732 fuel elements of the type which is depicted in Figure 14.1. The input quantities for the fuel element geometry are taken directly from the figure.

However, we also need to specify the data in regard to the grid spacers.

First of all, the spacer loss coefficient is taken from [53, p. 5-22] and corresponds directly to the fuel element in question. The value of $K_{\mbox{\protect\scriptsize spacer}}$ is taken as

\begin{displaymath}
K_{\mbox{\protect\scriptsize spacer}} = 1.38
\end{displaymath} (14.7)

We furthermore assume that we have 5 spacer within every fuel element and that these spacers are distributed uniformly over the length of the core, ie

\begin{displaymath}
\hspace{0.2ex}\underline{z}{}\hspace{0.15ex}_{\mbox{\protect\scriptsize spacer}} = [0.406,0.813,1.22,1.63,2.03]
\end{displaymath} (14.8)
