In this section we will study the external constitutive relations which are necessary for the solution of the core flow problem.

It is of major importance to recognize that the external constitutive relations depend not only on the working fluid but also depend on external phenomena such as the geometry and flow situation--ie the use of external constitutive relations are in general restricted to certain flow situations eg high-pressure high-flow in a rod bundle. It is therefore crucial to pick relations which are suitable to model the behaviour of the flow under investigation!
